When we’re working on this wedding magazine, we’re in touch with lots of experts—wedding planners, photographers, florists, bakers, venue representatives, and so forth—and we’re always asking for advice to pass along about how to have a great wedding. There are a few things we hear again and again:

• Hire a wedding planner.

• Don’t sweat the small stuff. (Or, really, hire a wedding planner so you don’t have to sweat the small stuff.)

• Plan the day with you and your sweetie in mind—not your mother, best friend, mother-in-law.

• Make it fun.

• Eat.

• Don’t get drunk.

• Find a way to savor a few moments, just the two of you, on what will be the busiest day of your life.

In this issue, you’ll find more advice. The Spotlight section includes a collection of pieces designed to get you thinking—about your cake, bringing in nature, getting great photos, surprising each other. We’ve got features to inspire you to make your wedding all Sacramento-based, or to motivate you to travel to Lake Tahoe . . . or Mount Everest. (Really, there’s a local photographer who will go with you!) Finally, some eye candy: a beautiful, intriguing fashion spread with an ethereal bent toward the signs of the Zodiak.

Enjoy the issue, and good luck with your wedding planning!
